FAQs
Walk-ins are welcome depending on artist availability on the day. We recommend calling ahead to check availability and secure your spot. Walk-ins usually work best for smaller pieces that don’t require extensive design, planning or consultation. For last-minute availability, keep an eye on our Instagram Story for daily updates.
Each artist operates their own business from within the studio and is free to set their own rates. Because of this, pricing varies depending on the artist, design, size and complexity of the tattoo.
For an accurate quote, contact your chosen artist directly or drop by the studio for a chat. Larger, more detailed or cover-up tattoos may require an in-person consultation before a quote can be provided.
Please note that each artist has a minimum charge, typically ranging from $150-$200, regardless of tattoo size. This helps cover design time, preparation, setup and administration costs.
Each artist manages their own payments, so accepted payment methods may vary. However, all artists accept bank transfer and cash.
Cast Iron Tattoo does not currently offer Afterpay or similar payment services. If you are interested in a payment plan or alternative payment method, please discuss this directly with your chosen artist.
Yes, all of our artists require a non-refundable deposit when booking. Deposit amounts may vary depending on each artist’s individual policy, so be sure to check with your chosen artist at the time of booking.
We understand that life happens! If you need to reschedule your appointment, please give your artist at least 48 hours notice so your deposit can be rolled over to your next appointment. Please note that appointments can only be rescheduled once before your deposit is considered forfeited. Deposits for cancelled or no-show appointments however, are non-refundable. Your artist may make exceptions for extenuating circumstances at their discretion; just let them know as soon as possible. Please note that exceptions are not guaranteed and in most cases policies regarding deposits will be enforced.
You must be 18 years or older to get tattooed in Queensland. Anyone under 18 cannot be tattooed, even with parental permission. Please bring a valid photo ID with you to your appointment to confirm your age.
Yes, tattooing is safe when performed by experienced, licensed artists in a professional studio that follows strict hygiene and infection control standards. While we take every precaution, no procedure is completely risk-free. While rare, most infections happen when aftercare instructions aren’t followed during the healing process. To help your tattoo heal well and prevent infection or unnecessary irritation, please follow your artist’s aftercare advice and reach out if you have any concerns.
It’s completely normal to feel nervous! If you have any concerns about your comfort or privacy, just let your artist know—we’re always happy to help you feel relaxed and at ease. You are also welcome to bring a support person*, blankets, jackets, pasties or anything else that helps you feel at comfortable. While our studio is open-plan, privacy screens are available if you’d like to be shielded from other artists or clients while getting tattooed. The studio interior is also not visible from the street, so passersby cannot see you getting tattooed.
*Please avoid bringing a large group with you to your appointment- unfortunately the studio space cannot accommodate this and it can be distracting to the artists and other clients and may impact their work.
In Queensland, tattoo artists are unable to supply or apply numbing cream to their clients. Any decision to use a numbing product is a personal one and should be made after considering the manufacturer’s instructions and any relevant medical advice.
Generally, the use of numbing cream is fine. However, it’s best to speak with your artist first, as they can advise whether a numbing product is suitable for your tattoo and placement and how they tattoo.
Please be aware that numbing products may cause adverse reactions in some individuals and can, in some cases, affect the tattooing process, healing or final appearance of the tattoo.
To make your session as smooth and comfortable as possible:
- Rest and hydrate – be well-rested and drink plenty of water. It’s also best to avoid getting tattooed if you’re hungover or feeling unwell, as this can affect how your body responds during the session.
- Eat a good meal – having a substantial meal beforehand helps you feel steady during your tattoo.
- Prepare the area – avoid using heavy lotions, body oils or fake tan on the tattoo area before your appointment. While your artist will shave the area if necessary, it helps to have any dense, long hair closely trimmed beforehand.
- Dress appropriately – wear comfortable clothing that gives your artist access to the area being tattooed that you don’t mind getting dirty, as the odd ink splatter can happen! Layers like a jacket can help if you get chilly.
- Bring comfort items – snacks, drinks, headphones, blankets or pillows are all welcome. Anything that helps you relax will make the session easier.
- Please bring a valid photo ID with you to your appointment. Photos of ID’s will not be accepted.
The studio has its own private carpark, plus there’s free street parking nearby. Our studio is located across from the Narangba Station and Major Bus Stop.
Your artist will guide you through the best aftercare to help your tattoo heal beautifully. As a general rule after being tattooed please avoid for at least 2 weeks; swimming, sun exposure, fragranced creams, fake tan, touching the tattoo or wearing abrasive clothing over the area that may rub or irritate. If you ever have questions or concerns about the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out to your artist or the studio as we’re always happy to help!
Aftercare cream is also available for purchase at the studio if you need it.
